Science writing
Features, blog posts, news stories and opinions on different areas of science. Some written to amuse, some to inform, some to highlight a serious issue; some written from interest, others as a student journalist and others still as a freelance journalist. As well as science, I like to write about anything that takes my interest, and this is what you’ll find in my blog. These cover news, art, photography, science, sport, reviews and opinion. Creative Writing
I don’t always like to write about the real world, but to sometimes let my imagination run free and write fiction. This takes the form of either isolated short pieces of creative writing, or short stories. No matter what, I always aim to explore a particular aspect of the world and the people in it.
Photography
As a fairly new photographer, I like to try my hand at all kinds of subjects, from wildlife to buildings, close up and panoramic, and anything in between. Art
I have a large portfolio of artwork from my studies and continuing it as a hobby. My work has been particularly influenced by the Impressionists and the Cubists, and I love art of the late 19th and early 20th century. The art page has galleries of some of my own work, although currently not all of it; look out for more galleries and enhanced pictures of those already there in the near future. Science
My interest and writing in science is informed by my academic science training and first-hand experience of research. Visit the science page to find out about my research, both my current PhD projects and my previous research work. In this section, I also plan to start learnSCiENCE a small initiative, with the potential to grow, to help non-specialists to understand concepts, theories, research and scientific techniques.
